Community Impact Statement for South Side Roller Derby

Since its inception in 2006, South Side Roller Derby has been a pioneering force in creating a supportive and empowering space for women and girls in the world of roller sports. Serving over 500 females each year, we have positively impacted approximately 9,500 women and girls since our founding, celebrating female athletes and providing a unique environment where participants can thrive both on and off the rink.

Empowerment Through Sport

South Side Roller Derby empowers women and girls by teaching them essential roller skating skills, including roller derby, dance on skates, and outdoor skating. Participants build confidence and self-esteem as they learn to navigate the sport and overcome challenges.

Promoting Fitness and Healthy Lifestyles

Our organization fosters a love for fitness through engaging activities that enhance physical health and promote mental well-being. Regular practice encourages participants to adopt active lifestyles, leading to improved health outcomes.

Creating a Safe Space

We provide a female-only space where women and girls can express themselves freely, share experiences, and connect with others. This sense of community fosters friendships and support networks that extend beyond the rink.

Skill Development and Leadership

Participants develop valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, and resilience. These experiences empower them to take on challenges in their personal and professional lives, promoting growth and self-discovery.

Community Engagement and Outreach

South Side Roller Derby actively engages with the local community through events, workshops, and collaborations with local businesses. We host six roller derby games each year, which not only showcase our athletes but also draw crowds that benefit the local economy.

Celebrating Female Athletes

By highlighting the achievements of women in roller sports, we challenge stereotypes and promote gender equality in athletics. Our events and programs celebrate the strength, talent, and determination of female athletes.

Support for Future Generations

Through our outreach programs, we inspire the next generation of female athletes. By offering mentorship and guidance, we instill values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship in young girls.

South Side Roller Derby is committed to empowering over 500 women and girls each year through roller sports, with a legacy of hosting six roller derby games annually since 2006. With approximately 10,000 females positively impacted, we create a lasting impact on our community and inspire future generations to embrace fitness, friendship, and fun.
