Why I Play Roller Derby -with- Krash N Burn

South Side GirlsSkater Spotlight, Why I Derby

What is the backstory on your Derby Name?

The backstory on my derby name is that I’m extremely accident prone in my day to day life. I run into walls and corners, trip while going up the stairs and do frequent gravity checks. Thinking that this would be even worse when I’m on skates, I chose to go by Krash N Burn. Turned out that I can skate better than I can walk.

When did you start roller derby?

I started roller derby boot camp in August of 2012 with a friend. She was done after the first class but I was hooked even though I hadn’t had contact yet.

Why did you start derby?

I started roller derby because I absolutely hated going to the gym. I felt self conscious and not quite comfortable in my own body. Roller derby was a really awesome outside of the box option that I will never regret choosing!

Has your why changed over the years?

Now I play because I can come to practice or scrimmage and leave all of my stress on the track. I love the physical contact and the challenge it provides my mind and body. I feel strong and more comfortable in my own skin. I’m surrounded by a fantastic group of supportive women and I hope to always be an encouragement to any woman who trying it out for the first time. ❤

Things you wish you knew when you first started derby that you know now.

I wish that I knew is that one day I would be captain of my own team. I have never considered myself a leader but roller derby has brought out a side  that was just hidden deep down inside.  Also, the friendships I have made are ones that will last a lifetime.❤
